Well it just keeps coming down here in the Northeast. It seems just as we remove the snow from one blizzard another one comes in and covers us again. Honfleur Harbour in Honfleur, France

This quaint little town north of Paris is a great little place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Paris city lights.  Just a short drive away, filled with wonderful shops, restaurants and history.  An absolute must if you are in the area.  You won't regret it, I promise.

I visited in 2007 and discovered several new oils to try in my soap making along with a few French herbs.  This town has a lot of little shops just filled with herbs, meats, oils.  There was even a really nice soap shop there.  I only had time to be there for a day, but I would recommend spending a weekend there if you have the time there is definitely enough to explore for a few days.

Famous Positano Beach

Positano, IT .. a place I had always dreamed of going.  Seeing it's picturesque villa covered hills on 100's of travel magazines all of my life.  I had wanted to go there since I was 12 yrs. old.  I finally made it!!  Positano was better than any dream I could have had.  It exceeded my expectations in so many ways, but the people were what truly made the experience so wonderful.

I worked in the travel industry for years and although I loved it I always felt something was missing in my life.  I had creative energy stirring within me that needed to be developed in to something.  In 1996 I accidently found my calling when stumbling upon a candle and soap making kit in a new age shop in Seattle, WA while looking for Christmas gifts for my family.  Well needless to say they were the very first recipients of my handmade candles and soap that year.

It was strange how as time went on I was able to combine all the things I love in to a career, it was some sort of natural progression by following my heart.  I couldn't quite give up travel so I found a way to make it part of all I do.  Every year now I take a trip to collect ingredients for all of my handmade bath and body goodies.  My trip to Positano in 2005 was one of those trips.  I found a wonderful place for lemon oil in which I still purchase from today.  Not sure where I am going to go this year, that is still in the works.

Chapel Bridge in Lucerne Switzerland

One of the many things I love to do is travel.  I travel every year to collect ingredients for my handmade soap creations.  I'm able to enjoy all the things I love by combining my love of nature, food, culture, photography and travel when I take these trips.  Above is a photo of the famous Chapel Bridge in Lucerne Switzerland.  Built in the 14th century.  Lucerne was one of my favorite places I visited in Europe and Switzerland.  A very vibrant and beautiful community.  I truly felt at peace there.

I've been working on a new website and it is finally up. It is best viewed in Firefox or Opera browsers until I work out the kinks in Internet Explorer. It seems that Chrome is completely useless to view the site. I'm anti-Chrome anyways but for those of you who use Chrome I'd suggest viewing the site in another browser.

I'm really excited about this new site though, It is much more user friendly and clean. I also have a lot more on there and lots of space to grow. I've been wanting to do that for a very long time now, but it's always a question of when will I have the time? I'm happy to finally have everything matching haha, some of you probably thought I was color blind since my website didn't match anything I was doing LOL. Anyway I hope you all will drop on by for a visit.

Big Changes in 2011!

Wow, it's been a while since I've caught up on my blog and many other things.  Time is flying!  First off I want to thank each and every one of you for the wonderful support you have given me in the past year.  2010 was a big year for me and as a result has produced a lot of big changes with DeShawn Marie Handmade Soap.  I couldn't have done all that I did in 2010 without the help and support of my friends, family and customers.  I really jumped some big hurdles and am really excited about 2011.

This year I will relocate the business to sunny FL in a larger location that will accommodate the growth of the business.  That will be occurring next month so you'll see some of my online shops closed for about 3 to 4 weeks while I'm in the process of the big move.  I wanted to give everyone a bit of a heads up for that in case you had any plans of purchasing for a special event or something in which time would be crucial.  Some of my shops will begin to close on Jan. 20th so I can begin packing. The first shop to close will be my soap loaf shop.  Soap loaves will not be available from Jan. 20th through the end of March. At the end of March the soap loaf shop will re-open and you will begin to see a larger selection and a lot of improvements.  My Etsy shop and website will be closed from approx. Feb. 10th through March 10th.  I am hoping to re-open around March 10th with a large inventory of fresh new soaps.

Now the move is not the only big plan for this year.  Like I said a lot is happening in 2011.  Here are a few of the new things you can look forward to in 2011 at DeShawn Marie Handmade Soap:

• Newly designed website (April)
• More organic soaps (April/May)
• Online classes & workshops (beginning in March)
• More giveaways
• New Etsy shop offering candles (mid Summer)
• Videos posted to youtube channel (starting in March) 

I hope you will all follow along on this big adventure this year, I'll try to keep up with the blog through the moving process....it should be quite a big job and adventure :-) Again thanks everyone for assisting me in making my dreams come true, without you none of this would be possible.  I am so so grateful for all of your support.  I hope you will enjoy all the new things that will be produced this year from this growth and as a result of your continued support.
